student lesson - healing at the pool - and class exercise

(John 5.1-17)
The Healing at the Pool
1  After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2  Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethes'da, having five porches.
3  In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4  For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water:  whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease they had.  [cf. song, Wade in the Water]
5  And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6  When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7  The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no one, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool:  but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8  Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9  And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked:  and on the same day was the sabbath.
10  The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day:  it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.  (see, Neh. 13.19; Jer. 17.21)
11  He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12  Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13  And he that was healed wist not who it was:  for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
14  Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole:  sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
15  The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
16  And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
17  But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

chapel reflection, benediction and study notes

Give No Credence

Give no credence to what you see, hear or think the devil is up to.  Give NO credence to the devil at all.

Settle yourself in the Almighty and his preordained safety, success and perfect health for you.  (Jeremiah 1.5, Jeremiah 29.11)  God is ALL powerful.  Believe ONLY in God.

He has already cancelled every one of the devil’s devices.  They are nonexistent when you believe.

Don’t conjure in your mind any fear, even for a minuscule second.  Don’t let the devil fake you out, not even briefly.  The devil may try to bluff God’s children any time.  So, always stay on guard and remain diligent in your stride.  (Luke 10.19)

Move on, confessing and fulfilling your God-given purposes in life.

Be joyful.  For the joy of the Lord   is your strength!  (Nehemiah 8.10)

You will do ALL things through Christ Jesus which strengthens you!  (Philippians 4.13)

You Are Always Safe In the Ever-Loving and Ever-Abiding Arms of Jesus, the Only Christ.

Keep that smile on your face and breathe deeply God’s breath of life.  Share your abiding confidence, joy, peace and love with others.  Be concerned for their well-being as well.

Remember, no weapon formed against you or your loved-ones will prosper.  It won’t work!  It just won’t work!  None of it!  Nothing! “Nada” will work!  (Isaiah 54.17)

For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  Stir up the gift of God.  (2 Timothy 1.6,7)

We rebuke the devil and ALL of his little imps, in the name of Jesus!  The devil can’t destroy you, nor your loved-ones, nor your purposes, nor your relationship with others.  We command, declare and decree this, in the name of Jesus!

Give no credence to the devil!  Have no fear!

ALL glory to God eternal.

Amen and amen.

thou hast redeemed my life

Lamentations 3
31  For the Lord will not cast off for ever:
32  but though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
57  Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee:  thou saidst, Fear not.
58  O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

Jesus Blesses the Children

Luke 18
15  And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them:  but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16  But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not:  for of such is the kingdom of God.
17  Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

God's Assurance
16  Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them:  and thou shalt rejoice in the Lord, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

study to show thyself approved

2 Timothy 2.7,14,15,16,23-26
7  Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in ALL things.
14  Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
15   Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16  But shun profane and vain babblings:  for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
23  But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto ALL, apt to teach, patient;
25  in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26  and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Jesus calls the 12 disciples

Mark 3
13  And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would:  and they came unto him.
14  And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15  and to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
16  and Simon he surnamed Peter;
17  and James the son of Zeb'edee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Bo-aner'ges, which is, The sons of thunder:
18  And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Al'pheus, and Thad'de-us, and Simon the Canaanite,
19  and Judas Iscar'i-ot, which also betrayed him.  And they went into a house.

The Word of God

Revelation 19
11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12  His eyes were as a flame of fire,  and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no one knew, but he himself.
13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood:  and his name is called The Word of God.

walk worthy of your calling

Ephesians 4
1  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2  with ALL lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;
3  endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

5  one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6  one God and Father of ALL, who is above ALL, and through ALL, and in you ALL.

women ministers

 Joel 2

28
And it shall come to pass
afterward, that I will pour
out my Spirit upon ALL
flesh; and your sons and
your daughters shall
prophesy, your old men
shall dream dreams, your
young men shall see visions:
29
and also upon the servants
and upon the handmaids in
those days will I pour out
my Spirit.
30
And I will show wonders in
the heavens and in the
earth, blood, and fire, and
pillars of smoke.
31
The sun shall be turned
into darkness, and the
moon into blood, before
the great and the terrible
day of the Lord come.
32
And it shall come to pass,
that whosoever shall call
on the name of the Lord
shall be delivered:  for in
mount Zion and in
Jerusalem shall be
deliverance, as the Lord
hath said, and in the
remnant whom the Lord
shall call.
 (Acts 2.14-21)

14
But Peter, standing up
with the eleven, lifted up
his voice, and said unto
them, Ye people of Judea,
and all ye that dwell at
Jerusalem, be this known
unto you, and hearken to
my words:
15
for these are not drunken,
as ye suppose, seeing it
is but the third hour of
the day.
16
But this is that which was
spoken by the prophet Joel;
17
And it shall come to pass
in the last days, saith God,

I will pour out of my
Spirit upon ALL flesh:
and your sons and your
daughters shall
prophesy,
and your young men shall
see visions,
and your old men shall
dream dreams:
18
and on my servants and
on my handmaidens

I will pour out in those
days of my Spirit;
and they shall
prophesy:
19
and I will show wonders
in heaven above,

and signs in the earth
beneath;
blood, and fire, and vapor
of smoke:
20
the sun shall be turned into
darkness,

and the moon into blood,
before that great and
notable day of the Lord
come:
21
and it shall come to pass,
that whosoever shall call
on the name of the Lord
shall be saved.

call for the cunning women

Jeremiah 9
17  Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come:
18  and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.
19  For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.
20  Yet hear the Word of the Lord, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor lamentation.
21  For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.

Word of our God

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth:  but the Word of our God shall stand for ever.  Isaiah 40.8

how to speak a word

(Isaiah 50.4,5)
The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to them that are weary:  he wakeneth morning by morning,
The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.

ministry of reconciliation

(2 Corinthians 5.17-21)
17  Therefore if anyone be in Christ, they are a new creation:  old things are passed away; behold, ALL things are become new.
18  And ALL things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19  to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us:  we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

words wholesome

(1 Timothy 6.3,4,5,20,21)
3  If anyone teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4  they are proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5  perverse disputings of people of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness:  from such withdraw thyself.
20  O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
21  which some professing have erred concerning the faith.  Grace be with thee.  Amen.

everlasting life

John 3
16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
